Today we commemorate a series of remarkable events and lives that have touched millions through the simple yet profound message: “Just As I Am.”

In 1871, at age 82, British hymn writer Charlotte Elliot was called home to her heavenly reward. Her journey began decades earlier when, in 1835, she felt helpless, crippled by illness and doubt, questioning her salvation. Yet, a Swiss evangelist’s question—“Are you at peace with God?”—planted a seed of hope. Charlotte’s heartfelt response, “Just as I am,” became a hymn that has blessed billions, inspiring countless souls to come to Christ exactly as they are.

Six decades later, in 1931, C.S. Lewis, then 31 years old, faced an internal struggle over Jesus’s identity. Riding in his brother’s motorcycle sidecar, Lewis finally realized Jesus was who He claimed to be—Savior and Lord. This moment transformed him from skeptic to believer, and his life’s work would influence generations.

Just three years after Lewis’s conversion, 16-year-old Billy Graham heard the same life-changing song at a revival in Charlotte, NC. He stepped forward, surrendering his life to Christ. As a successful evangelist, Graham often returned to the words “Just As I Am,” closing his crusades with this powerful declaration of faith. His ministry reached millions, from stadiums in England to the largest arenas around the world.

The message is clear: No matter your doubts, frustrations, or fears—Jesus invites you to come, just as you are. He can take your struggles and transform your life.
