Welcome to today’s article, where we explore the incredible journey of Nirmal Purja, a mountaineer whose determination and faith reflect the teachings of Curry Blake and Dr Michael Youssef and the principles of perseverance.
On Friday, 2 September, 2022 I mounted Mount Everest! But I mounted it inside a very comfortable light aircraft. But on that trip, I met a remarkable gentleman in the Kathmandu Novotel. He was coming down from the Heights of the motel, but in a lift. He introduced himself as Nims. As we descended my local host described his remarkable feats.
Nims Purja is best known for his incredible feat of climbing all 14 eight-thousanders—mountains that rise above 8,000 meters (26,000 feet)—in just six months and six days, from April to October 2019.
He spoke perfect English so I asked him how he did it?
His answer was just as remarkable!
He said “I just kept going!“
The Power of Perseverance: Nirmal Purja and the Legacy of Dr Michael Youssef and Curry Blake
Nirmal Purja: A Journey of Faith and Achievement
Although Nirmal Purja is a Hindu the principles still apply, also known as Nims, he was born on July 25, 1983, in Nepal. His early life was marked by challenges, but through hard work and dedication, he rose to become one of the most celebrated mountaineers in history. Purja’s journey began in the Brigade of Gurkhas and later the Special Boat Service of the Royal Navy, where he developed resilience and leadership skills that would serve him well in the mountains.
In 2019, Purja made headlines by climbing all 14 eight-thousanders in just six months and six days. This record-breaking feat showcased not only his physical strength but also his unwavering faith and commitment to his goals. Similarly, Curry Blake, of John G. Lake Ministries, and Dr Michael Youssef of Leading The Way emphasize the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity, encouraging believers to remain steadfast in their faith and to ‘never give up.’
Project Possible: 14/7
In 2021, Purja launched Project Possible, aiming to climb all 14 eight-thousanders in only seven months. This project was more than a personal challenge; it sought to inspire others and raise awareness about the importance of high-altitude safety and rescue efforts. Purja’s determination illustrates the essence of perseverance—pushing boundaries and redefining what is achievable.
Curry Blake often teaches that faith and action go hand in hand. Just as Purja took bold steps to fulfill his dreams, Blake encourages individuals to act on their faith, believing that God’s power can lead to extraordinary outcomes.
The Impact of Words
Both Purja’s journey and Blake’s teachings highlight the significant impact of words and communication. Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that “death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Purja’s story is filled with affirming language, both from his supporters and his own self-talk, reinforcing the idea that positive words can fuel motivation and resilience.
Blake echoes this sentiment by emphasizing the need for believers to speak life into their situations. The words we choose can uplift, inspire, and empower us to overcome obstacles—just as they did for Nirmal Purja in his climbing endeavors.
Conclusion: A Legacy of Perseverance
As we reflect on the lives of Nirmal Purja, Dr Michael Youssef and Curry Blake, we see that perseverance rooted in faith can lead to remarkable achievements. All these men exemplify the power of dedication, humility, and the belief that with God, all things are possible.
In a world where challenges abound, let us take inspiration from their journeys. Remember, with each step we take in faith, we can conquer our mountains, both literal and metaphorical.
