I’m excited to revive our tradition with the GGG: Granpa’s Gourmet Group as we explore the fantastic restaurants stretching from Dee Why to Palm Beach. With a mix of nostalgic memories, favorites and new discoveries, our upcoming restaurant visits promise to be both delicious and memorable!
Dee Why: Starting Our Culinary Journey
Our adventure kicks off in Dee Why, known for its vibrant dining scene. We’ll start at The Beach Hotel, where we can enjoy fresh seafood and stunning ocean views. The kids will love rating the fish and chips—always a classic beachside favorite.
Collaroy: Coastal Delights
Just a short trip north, Collaroy awaits with its charming eateries. We’re eager to visit The Collaroy, which offers a relaxed atmosphere and a menu filled with delightful options.
Narrabeen: Hidden Gems
Next, we will return to Oceans Narrabeen where their ribs are a local favorite. And The Narrabeen we’ve never been there. We’ll ask the kids to share their thoughts on the signature dishes, especially the fresh seafood options.
Mona Vale: A Culinary Hub
Moving on to Mona Vale, we have a treasure trove of dining options. We’ll start at The Royal Palace, where we’ll dive into flavorful Indian cuisine. The kids will get to critique the curries and naan, sharing their thoughts on the spice levels and textures.
Next, we’ll head to Toro Nero, an Italian restaurant celebrated for its authentic dishes. The grandchildren will love rating the pasta and pizza, and I can’t wait to see who declares the best dish! We can’t forget about The Basin Dining Room, we’ve never been there either, where the stunning views complement a delicious menu of fresh, seasonal dishes.
Perhaps we will revisit the Tex Mex or The Mexicano.
Newport:
After Mona Vale, we’ll make our way to Newport, where 4 Pines Newport awaits. This local brewery offers a great selection of craft beers and tasty pub fare. The kids will enjoy sampling their famous burgers and pizzas, and I can’t wait to capture their reactions as they dig into their meals!
And for some casual dining, we’ll visit The Cheer Factory for tasty bites and a fun atmosphere. The Lovat and Zubi Bar are also must-visit spots, with the latter being perfect for a hearty breakfast before a day at work if I stay overnight.
Avalon: Beachside Gems
In Avalon, we’ll discover even more culinary delights. We’ll start with Avalon RSL, where the kids can enjoy a schniztel or relaxed meal with a variety of options.
Then, we’ll savor the flavors at Saibiang Thai Restaurant and Sea Wave Thai Restaurant, both known for their authentic Thai dishes. For special occasions, Bistro Boulevard will be our go-to for a memorable expensive french dining experience.
A Special Year Ahead
As we embark on this exciting culinary journey over the next 12 months, it holds extra significance this year. One of my favorite granddaughters, Stella, will be overseas for six months, making our GGG videos even more special. We’ll capture our adventures and share them with her, ensuring she feels connected to our culinary explorations, no matter the distance.
